DON'T FORGET!

I have been having some issues with students not turning in their homework. Please remind your child to check their homework folder every night. I will also post the homework on this blog everyday. It is important your child does the assigned homework so that they do not get behind in school. If their are any issues with getting homework done please email me, call me, or send me a note. I would love to help in anyway that I possibly can. Also we have tutors that come from Grand Valley every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so let me know if you want me to sign up your child for an hour of homework help any of these days after school. We are here to help you. Thanks for all you do at home for your child.

Also don't forget to turn in the your permission slips for the field trip by Wednesday October 6th.

Stay tuned... I will be sending home parent/teacher conference slips next week. :)

Have a great Monday!!!!!

Reading Groups

We officially started out reading groups today! I am always excited when we get these groups going. Being in a reading group really helps the motivate the students to read and participate in the group. We will be meeting in our groups Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 30 minutes. During this time they will start reading the next chapter and discuss what they read the night before. Also they will fill out a sheet individually before they meet as a group so I can monitor their reading. Please encourage your child to do the reading. Getting behind will be really hard for them to interact with their groups. Also I always love having parent volunteers at this time. We meet in our groups from 10:00 to 10:30. Email me if you can help in anyway. :)

Dinosaur Stories

In English we have been working on making our stories interesting by adding descriptive words. In art class the students made a clay dinosaur. When the students were done with them we decided to write stories about our dinosaurs. They had to then outline their story. Once that was approved the students wrote their stories. Then we went through an editing process where they added descriptive words to make their stories more interesting. Finally they wrote a final copy which we had them decorate so that they could be displayed. Now, the students stories are displayed in the hallway with their dinosaurs. It was a very fun writing assignment and the students really enjoyed it. Below are some pictures of our display.

Country Dairy Farm

I am so excited to announce that we will be going to the Country Dairy Farms in New Era, MI, on Friday October 7th. This will be a great experience for the students to see how the milk is processed and bottled so that we, as consumers, are able to buy it at the store. This will tie in great with our Social Studies unit. I sent home the permission slip with your student today. Make sure you look over it and send it back in next week. If you want to chaperon please indicate that on the permission slip. The cost will be $5. (both for students and parents) We will be leaving school at 9:30 am and returning at 3pm. Check out the link below for a sneak peek of where we will be going.

Thanks for everyone that came to the Open House. It was so great meeting all of you. I had a wonderful turn out and I am really excited for this great year we have ahead of us. Don't worry if you missed this open house, you can stop by the classroom anytime before or after school so that you can sign up for helping in the classroom and get all the information that was given out. Also make sure you pick up a school calendar in the office so you know all about the upcoming events. I am so excited to work with all of you this year. Please contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns.
